About the Foundation

The Dr Oscar Dhlomo Foundation was founded on 29 August 2010 in Umlazi by his widow and children with the aim of continuing the work which was central to his life. Based on the three principles which comprised his philosophy – education, faith and social responsibility – it also subscribes to the humanistic ideal to which he subscribed: “umuntu ungumuntu ngabantu” (“I am because you are”), or ubuntu. The foundation’s primary role lies in supporting education by way of granting bursaries to students from underprivileged communities (see “Education”). It also involves itself in a number of community upliftment projects.
