Making a difference. Creating a legacy.
The Dr Oscar Dhlomo Foundation was founded on 29 August 2010 in Umlazi by his widow and children with the aim of
continuing the work which was central to his life. Based on the three principles which comprised his philosophy –
education, faith and social responsibility – it also subscribes to the humanistic ideal to which he subscribed: “umuntu
umgumuntu ngabantu” (“I am because you are”), or ubuntu.
The foundation’s primary role lies in supporting education by way of granting bursaries to students from underprivileged
communities (see “Education”). It also involves itself in a number of community upliftment projects.
Christian Outreach
Christianity is one of the three pillars
the Dr Oscar Dhlomo Foundation
focuses on. It is and was a strong
personality trait of Dr Dhlomo
himself. The foundation is
committed to contributing to
Christianity projects. To date the Dr
Oscar Dhlomo foundation has
played a vital role in the
development of the Umlazi Lamont
UCCSA and has successfully
renovated the UCCSA Umbumbulu
Isaac Dhlomo Chapel.
Education & Bursaries
The Dr Oscar Dhlomo Foundation
has granted bursaries to 11
students at various universities
around the country, including the
Mongosuthu University of

Community Development
Community development plays a
vital role in achieving the objectives
of the Dr Oscar Dhlomo Foundation.
Community development is a
meaningful way to see a corporate
social investment in seeing a better
tomorrow. The Foundation is
committed to making a meaningful
contribution to its surrounding
community. The trustees of the Dr
Oscar Dhlomo foundation have

and community development
